Highlights
Installation of a Siemens Eclipse 11 Mega electron-volt cyclotron and two fully equipped state-of-the-art radiochemistry production facilities. Flood proofing of mechanical cellar, phased replacement of electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems, installation of new chillers, installation of new Con Edison vault, and structural reinforcement of the building.
This cyclotron is the second to be installed in NYC and the fourth in the country. LPE was retained to provide project management services to oversee the installation of the cyclotron and radiochemistry lab, in a century old building, damaged during Super Storm Sandy. The building is home to four state-of-the-art clinical MRI and PET-MRI imaging systems, which was a project previously managed by LPE. The prerequisite of the project was to maintain the operation of adjacent imaging facility and patient access accordingly. Work was phased and closely coordinated with radiology staff and facilities personnel ensuring minimal impact. The installation of the equipment also required the relocation of several radiology services. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were rerouted to allow the required structural reinforcement of the building to support the added weight of the cyclotron and lead shielded radiochemistry hot cells. In addition, the project included the flood proofing of the cellar and replacement of all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems located in the cellar and roof, driving new shafts thru the 6-story building. Also included was a refurbishment of the lobbies and administrative areas.
